My Happiness Project - Week 12

I am in Tisdale. I forgot The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, but remembered My Happiness Project notebook, so I figure I am equipted to continue with the project while I am on holidays. It will just be my own ideas rather than Rubin's!

At my friend, Courtney's wedding on the weekend, her mom and dad gave the welcome to the family speech for her husband, Bart. Well actually, Court's mom gave the speech and her dad just was her handsome bodyguard! While Court's mom was speaking, I was wishing I had a pen and paper to take some notes. She said some really great stuff. Since I didn't have anything to write with - and not to mention how weird it would be to take notes during wedding speeches, I am just going to have to paraphrase!

It doesn't matter how big our house is, what kind of car we drive, or how many holidays we go on. Those material things will never be the good stuff in our lives. The good stuff is kissing your kids goodnight, curling up with a good book on a cold day, and spending time laughing with family and friends. Those kinds of things are the best things about our lives. Often times we are so busy living our lives, striving to make money to pay for the house, car, and holidays that we forget about the good stuff. Its always there, but we don't pay attention to it.

This week I am going to pay attention to the good stuff. I am going to start a page in My Happiness project notebook and everyday I am going to write down the good stuff from my day.

The first "good stuff" from today, so far, is making hamburger soup (yummy hamburger soup I might add) that I was able to share with Hugh, Calder and my mom and dad. I will share my list with you next week.

Wishing you lots of good stuff this week.

  2. Love it. You're such an inspiration. I might need to get this book before school starts... to try to keep me balanced!

  3. I could not agree more with your friend's mom. Too often people are so busy to see the value of everyday life in and of itself. Money does not matter. As long as there is food on the table, roof over head, and the house is full of love, nothing else matters.

  4. Thanks for the reminder - those are some wise words. In this crazy world we tend to get too wrapped up in what we want, what we have and what we don't have (in terms of material things) that we forget what truly makes us happy!

Enjoy being home in Tisdale! Say hi to your parents for me!
