Worldwide Candle Lighting

Last week someone commented on one of my posts about a Worldwide Candle Lighting. Thank-you Anonymous. I got the information for the gathering in Saskatoon, but was feeling anxious about attending. I wanted others to see Tripp's picture. I wanted to stand with people who know what it is like. But I didn't. In the end, my nerves told me it wasn't the right thing for me this year. Instead, I honoured Tripp by lighting a candle at his tree in North Hills Park. I made an ice candle holder out of a mold my mom got me a few years ago from Lee Valley.

I wanted to leave the candle going all night so that people out for a walk would see Tripp's light. We got about 1/2 a block away and I couldn't do it. There is no way a fire would have started, but I couldn't leave it unattended. I dropped Calder and Hugh off at the house and headed back. As I approached the park I started crying. I could see the light and it looked beautiful. I wanted other people to see it too. I might have been gone all of two minutes and when I pulled into the back alley behind the park I could see a girl was standing at Tripp's tree looking a his light. I walked over and said hello. I gently blew out the candle and lifted it out of the holder.


I decided to leave the holder at Tripp's tree. I may just get the urge some other evening to walk over and shine a bit of light on North Hills Park (although not unattended).
When I got home I lit the candle on our front step instead. 
At 7:59 pm I went to the Compassionate Friends website and I wrote on their wall. Strangers will read his name and think of us.

    Jordan,

    You should go and buy the battery operated tealights. That way you could leave the candle lit for Tripp in the park everynight without concern of a fire. I believe that the girl you said hello to that was standing at Tripp's tree looking at his light will share the experience with family and friends and will think of your family and Tripp throughout the Christmas season and the rest of the year.

    That is a great idea Kim! It would look beautiful, and without the worry of burning the park down (which actually I would not have thought of...I would assume in ice that it would be lucky if the candle stayed lit). Still, good idea on the flame-less candle!

    I totally agree, Kelly! Genius. Thanks for the idea, Kim. Hopefully Santa will get some for my stocking (Hugh - that comment was meant for you)!

On Tuesday, I had this brilliant post formulated in my head. Then just before supper the power went out. Although the internet went down with the power, I still could have just written it on the computer to publish in the morning. Guest Post Luke: Men at Ikea

     I've recently been blessed with 2 trips to Ikea in the last 3 months, and with a lot of time on my hands while in Ikea I came to notice a few similarities in all the men walking around there.   As I was taking notes on every man I saw, and mostly myself , I came up with different types of guys and what their role was with their significant other.          The first guy, who I believe to be the most common, is "The Turn Back Man".  This man believes that, just like in racing, if he stays in front of his significant other he can use drafting to increase her speed and keep her on track.  This never works and he subsequently becomes the "Turn Back Man".  He is constantly 4 steps ahead and turning back over and over when SHE sees something else they "might" need.  It is tough, because when entering Ikea men want to do as little walking as possible, but this has us taking even more steps. Calder missed nailing our baby's arrival by 4 hours. Boone James Hamilton was born at 3:59 this morning. Boone is doing well. We got back some positive test results today and will hopefully get the remaining few tomorrow. He gets to spend the night with us and at this point that is all we can ask!
