The numbers
Calder's Due Date: March 31
Calder's Birth Date: March 8
Tripp's Due Date: March 21
Tripp's Birth Date: February 18
Boone's Due Date: March 5
Boone's Birth Date: March 14
Baby #4 Due Date: February 23
Baby #4 Birth Date: ? But you may want to ask Calder. . . He was 4 hours off predicting Boone's!
The first thing you will notice is the timeline. Hugh and I both believe that kids who have early birthdays have an advantage. Malcolm Gladwell talks about the advantage when it comes to playing in the NHL, but there is also something to be said for being one of the oldest and most mature in your grade. Hugh and I made a purposeful decision to start trying to get pregnant when we knew the date would give us a January baby. It is normal to take anywhere from 1 month to a year to conceive. We couldn't predict we would have a baby in the first three months and would have been happy with a baby born during any of the months. We wanted a baby more than anything.
I won't get into the details, but as you can see we have been very fortunate when it comes to conceiving. We have also taken a bit a grief over our excessive planning when it comes to our family, but Hugh and I both believe there was planning and a lot of luck involved!
The other number that stands out to me is #4's due date. February 23. That is the date Tripp died. We knew when we were trying for a February baby that this could happen. According to my dates baby #4's due date is February 17, but there is new protocol this year and doctors now take the date the first ultrasound says. I had one at 6 weeks and it said February 23 (Interestingly, my 2nd ultrasound at 10 weeks said a date of February 17, but Dr. M said we don't change the date, we just say my baby is big for its gestational age!).
I feel like this baby is connected to Tripp more than Boone. I always wanted 3 kids, so for me, Boone was always in the cards. This baby would not be here if Tripp was. #4's due date of the 23rd actually doesn't really bother me. In fact, I don't care if it is born on that date. I just really hope it isn't born on Tripp's birthday or on Hugh's (February 11). Birthdays are special to me and I want everyone to have their own.
As you can see, we have a very busy birthday schedule in our house. We will be (hopefully) having 5 birthdays within a month - 4 kids and Hugh. CRAZY!!! That is a lot of cake!
Have a happy Monday!
