Things I'm reading

Glennon over at Momastary  did something really great last week to help 4 kids in need. She started a donation flash mob to raise funds to help some families who could really use it. The maximum donation accepted was $25 and you even get a tax reciept!  Read about the kids HERE . Read about the results HERE . Very incredible! Kelly over at Enjoying the Small Things  is helping to create more awareness for Down Syndrome. She is working with the National Down Syndrome Society and has made t-shirts with proceeds going to the society. The t-shirts say, "Teach me to soar and I will." They are really cute! We know and love an adorable little girl with an extra chromosome, so this cause feels VERY close to home. I always see pictures of her with her family on Facebook participating in events to support Down Syndrome. We live WAY to far away and never get to join them, so these t-shirts feel like a really good way to support them. And on top of that, I hope that their positive ...

The most important job we have

Joe Paterno was the head coach of Penn State Nittany Lions for 46 years. He coached undefeated teams, won major bowls and at the time of his death in January, 2012 he had more wins than any other division I football coach. What stands out more than any major football accolade is that he failed to protect young boys from a sexual predator. It sickens me.  Jerry Sandusky was Paterno's assistant coach. He sexually abused young men for 15 years. He used the Penn State Football program to recruit them. Paterno knew and looked the other way. While in the van this weekend we heard an article by Rick Reilly titled, The sins of the father . Read it. It is worth your time. Reilly sums it up best: I talked about Paterno's "true legacy" in all of this. Here's his true legacy: Paterno let a child molester go when he could've stopped him. He let him go and then lied to cover his sinister tracks. He let a rapist go to save his own recruiting successes and fundraisin...

Yesterday morning I heard a story of a grade 1 student. It broke my heart. It was a story of abuse and neglect. Since Tripp died, sad stories feel even sadder. When I hear or read about them, my stomach gets upset, my spirit sinks and I feel like I move closer to the brink - brink of what, I'm not sure . I feel helpless. There is absolutely nothing I can do for that student but be sad. And angry that there are people in this world who don't love their kids the way they should. Yesterday, after hearing that story, I avoided all things sad. While I ate my lunch at work I saw THIS post. It was inspiring and I wanted to watch the video posted with it, but I knew that the inspiration in the video was going to come through a sad story. One sad story a day is enough for me, so I moved on, making a mental note to go back to watch on a different day. Then last night I was cruising around the internet and came across  THIS . For some reason I was drawn to it. I knew it was going ...

Surfing

Last night I surfed. Here are some links I found. Play At Home Mom has some GREAT activites to do with kids - especially if you aren't afraid to get a bit messy! I love the shaving cream garage. We will have to give ours a spray down before attempting this! If you have some time to kill, Draw A Stickman is a great interactive game. I quite enjoyed it. . . Any kid capable of drawing would too! Lastly on a more serious note, I connected in a number of ways to the post that Glennis made at Momastery . "Sometimes, Love Doesn’t Win. Or that’s how it feels anyway." This is the kind of post that could make a person cry. Just so you know. Have a wonderful weekend. I hope it is restful and productive and that the sun decides to shine!

On The Internet

I cannot get enough of the song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. If you were going to Costco yesterday around 5:25 pm, you may have seen me rocking out in our mini-van. The factor speakers were maxed out and I was dancing from the waist up. The only words I know are part of the chorus, but yesterday you would have seen me singing. Every. Single. One. It is one of those songs that makes me happy. And hey, Justin Bieber has put his stamp of approval on it. So really, what more do you need? I heard about a song that went viral on the radio yesterday (this was before my karaoke party). I checked it out and it is pretty cool. Five people playing one guitar. They covered a song called Somebody That I Used to Know . I have really started to enjoy Pinterest . It is a website that allows you to save links to different sites and organize those links on different boards. I often bookmark pages when I am looking for recipes or ideas for stuff around my house. This site allows me to save the...
